Torsion of omental fibrous pseudotumour mimicking acute appendicitis

Unusual pathologies are occasionally found at laparoscopy when appendicitis is suspected. We present a case of strangulated inflammatory fibrous pseudotumour of the omentum presenting in a similar fashion to appendicitis. The infarcted omentum was excised, facilitating prompt resolution of symptoms.

Two Cases of Omental Torsion Mimicking Acute Appendicitis

Acute appendicitis is often simulated by other entities like mesenteric adenitis, worm infestation, Meckel's diverticulitis, urinary tract infection and rarely omental torsion. We report two cases, a 6 year old boy and an 11 year old girl, who presented with symptoms and signs of acute appendicitis but upon exploration turned out to be omental torsion.

Gallbladder Torsion with Accompanying Acute Appendicitis

Gallbladder torsion is a rare clinical entity and it is a difficult condition to diagnose preoperatively. About 500 cases of gallbladder torsion have been reported since 1898, when Wendel first described gallbladder volvulus. This condition most commonly occurs in elderly women and the symptoms of this disease are largely non-specific and they mimic those of acute cholecystitis. Even with the r...

Acute primary haemorrhagic omental torsion mimicking perforated appendicitis: an unorthodox surgical paradox.

The author reports a 30 years man who had presented with gradually worsening right-sided abdominal pain of 2 days duration. Laboratory work-up and abdominal radiographs were inconclusive. Abdominal s...

Omental torsion

Omental torsion is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain, and clinically mimics acute appendicitis. A 11-year-old boy presented with symptoms and signs suggestive of appendicitis. A computed tomography of abdomen revealed findings suggestive of omental torsion. Diagnostic laparoscopy confirmed the diagnosis of torsion of a segment of the greater omentum.
